alexander not used the word...
back and up.

He used the words...
Lengthen and widen.

Shall i think paradoxically yours,alexander words are same?
Please suggest me.

good alexander educational tip.
here i noticed :
1)the back goes back and up as a wave
means where by::::::  not forward and down or stays where it should be.
2) the head goes forward and up as a wave
means where by:::::: not back and down or stays where it is or it should be.

i will try to change my thinking, as a wave.
i will experiment on this. 
hope,  for me this may be good idea.......
