Tip 20 – Improve Computer Posture

For improved computer posture, avoid drawing your feet toward your back.

More than position, this tip is about avoiding the tendency to draw the body together.  When sitting at your desk, allow for ease between your lower legs and your upper legs. By allowing your feet to rest gently on the floor without pulling them toward you, you may find that your back will settle more comfortably against the back of the chair.

  1. Thanks for these reminders. I have a bad habit of crossing my legs while sitting in my ergonomic chair at my ergonomic keyboard. Have you addressed this anywhere? I believe it leads to hip imbalance among other scary things. Trying to stay centered… Thanks.

    1. Thanks for your question Amy. The Alexander Technique does not forbid any positions and there is nothing fundamentally wrong with crossing your legs. The issue is how you do it, and that’s true for everything you do. It is a good idea for a tip.
