The Fountain

Fountain

In my lessons I often talk about how the body is like a fountain.  A fountain of water looks like a real thing but, at the same time, it has to be renewed every second.  This is like the body where the heartbeat makes life possible every moment. The living body seems like an object, but really it is more like an event or a story unfolding. In this idea, good posture isn\’t a stiffness, but something  that is created new and light every moment.

  1. The fountain is a great analogy Leland. No part of the body is fixed or stuck ever although that may be how we interpret some sensations. Faulty sensory appreciation once again. That is all part of the story.

  2. exploring ones own satisfactory tension of neck, head, back, limbs in the activity of sit, walk, stand, bend etc activities , by using alexander directions of good use is all about alexander technique.

  3. alexander technique is a logic based, conduction of energy to muscles of the head, torso, legs, arms so that they can release to natural directions for the breath to happen naturally, so that , the movement of the body becomes free.

  4. Great start to the blog Leland! Thanks! The link isn’t working for me-it could be an old link or it could very well be my method of accessing the link which is via my sidekick and not an actual computer. 🙂 I understand why you keep referring to a fountain. It took me a while though. I like the concept of personal evolution-the idea that we can become better than we have been in the past, that we can do things differently than we have normally done, that we can improve. I would like to become more relaxed in my body and learn to move in a way that better utilizes it. I think it would help free my mind. All the physical tension I have sometimes inhibits me; I feel like my fountain is stopped up. But if I can use this present as a continuous march toward the next I can aim to improve! Anyway I think I finally understand the fountain analogy. Leland, thank you for mentioning your plans for next class too, it is helpful to know what to expect.
