Tip 19 – How to Lunge

Lunging is bending with one knee instead of two.

Lunge diagram

Lunging is bending with one knee instead of two knees. It is much faster than bending with two knees and it also allows you to reach. The lunge is used during continuing movements, especially in sports like tennis (look at Roger Federer). Be sure to point your spine as you also bend at the ankles and hips, not the waist.  You can see a video at Tip 84.

I love these tips and always read or watch them. They have been especially helpful in my career as a veterinarian, because I’m continually squatting and lunging. If I had known these techniques longer than the past eight years, I think I could have spared my knees from the arthritis I now have from 40 years of practice. Better late than never, so thanks Leland!
